Technology and Design Department aims to:

  • To develop creativity, independent thinking and problem solving skills

  • To develop CAD/CAM skills to an excellent standard

  • To build capacity in all students in practical skills

 

KS3

At Key Stage 3, Technology and Design is delivered over two lessons per week. The subject content is delivered through design and manufacture projects where pupils experience areas such as:

 

  • Product Design

  • Graphics / Graphic Design

  • Electronics

  • Mechanisms

  • Computer Aided Design (Laser Cutter)

  • Computer Aided Manufacture (Boxford Router)

  • Resistant Materials (Wood, Metal & Plastics)

  • Workshop Skills.

 

KS4

CCEA GCSE Technology & Design

Unit 1: Core Content Examination 25% (Yr 11 1 ½ Hour Examination)

Unit 2C: Product Design Examination 25% (Yr 12 1 ½ Hour Examination)

Unit 3: Product Design Controlled Assessment 50% (Yr 12)

 

CCEA Occupational Studies

Unit 56 Bench Joinery 50% (Portfolio Assessment)

Unit 58 Computer Aided Design 50% (Portfolio Assessment)

 

KS5

CCEA GCE Technology & Design

AS Technology (40% of A Level)

Unit 1:  Paper 1 Core Examination 12.5% (1 Hour Examination)

Unit 1C:  Paper 2 Product Design Examination 12.5% (1 Hour Examination)

Unit 2: Product Development Coursework 25%

 

A2 Technology (60% of A Level)

Unit 1: Core Content Examination 25% (2 Hour Examination)

Unit 2: Product Design and Manufacture 25%
